Welcome to Montclair Cub Scout Pack 12! Pack 12 is one of the oldest continuously chartered Cub Scout packs in the US and meets at Union Congregational Church in Upper Montclair.
The basic organizational unit of Pack 12 (like all Cub Scout packs) is the Den. Each Den consists of between 5 and 12 kids of the same academic grade level (from grades 1 through 5). Dens meet one or two times each month for one hour (times as mutually agreed upon by each Den). For 1st graders, a parent or guardian needs to attend each Den meeting with their Scout. At each Den meeting, activities are focused on different areas of citizenship, sports, or the outdoors and follow the guidelines of the Cub Scout Handbook.
The Dens comprise the Pack. The Pack meets once per month on a Wednesday night from 7:00 to 8:00 at Union Congregational Church. Pack meetings are a chance for the Scouts to experience being part of a larger group, and to receive awards and advancements based on activities they have completed during Pack events or with their Dens. Each Pack meeting has a theme and there is a structured activity.
Events
Pack 12 typically organizes the following special events during the course of the school year, in which all Scouts, parents and siblings are invited to participate (at lease one parent or guardian must accompany each scout on overnight trips):
- Fall Camping Trip
- Soda Bottle Rocket Launch
- Winter Overnight Camping Trip (indoors at a museum or heritage site)
- Pine Wood Derby
- Blue and Gold Ceremony (the major awards recognition event for Scouts as they move up to the next level)
- Spring Overnight Camping Trip
Costs
Annual dues are $160 for the first Scout and $135 for additional scouts. The only other expenses are for a uniform shirt for your child and the cost of the camping trips which typically are in range of $50/person. We also offer assistance for those in need, as we feel the benefits of Scouting are of paramount importance to a growing boy and should not be sacrificed due to financial hardships.

You may register your son for Pack 12 at any time. For more information on registering or to obtain a registration packet, email us at info@montclairpack12.org. We typically have an informational session at our first Pack Meeting in the fall for prospective Cub Scouts and their parents. Following that meeting, families are invited to stay for the meeting's scheduled activities. We also hold a similar meeting before our last Pack meeting in the spring looking ahead to the next year.
